And, with more than 90 kilometers of cross country ski and snowshoe trails around Snowmass, Aspen and Basalt, the Roaring Fork Valley truly offers some of the best cross country skiing in the nation. Best of all: It’s FREE!

Aspen Snowmass Cross Country Ski Trails

With this much trail, the variety of terrain is extensive, offering options for everyone from first-time skiers to seasoned experts. Not quite ready for cross country skiing, but still want to get out there and explore? Many of these trails allow snowshoeing as well!

Snowmass Village Trails:

  • Trail 60 – Snowmass Golf Course 
    • Terrain rating: Intermediate
    • Distance: 2.71km
    • Technique: Skating and classic skiing
    • Description: The Snowmass Cross Country Center provides beautifully rolling terrain on the Snowmass Golf Course. There is a great network of minor trails connecting to trail 60 that allow endless variations for hills and loops.
  • Owl Creek Trail
    • Terrain rating: Intermediate to Expert
    • Distance: 10.18km
    • Technique: Skating and classic skiing
    • Description: One of the area’s most iconic trails, the Owl Creek trail connects Aspen to Snowmass. The trail traverses across several challenging climbs and steep descents, and offers some of the best views in the valley. It also connects to Trail 60 in Snowmass, and Trails 50 and 20 in Aspen.
  • Labrador Lane
    • Terrain rating: Beginner to Intermediate
    • Distance: 4.18km
    • Technique: Skating and classic skiing; multi-use
    • Description: Labrador Lane is a dog-friendly trail located on the Snowmass Golf Course for skiing, snowshoeing, or walking.  All recreators must remember that the Town of Snowmass Village has a leash policy, and that aside from the marked Labrador Lane, all other trails on the Snowmass Golf Course area are for cross country skiing or snowshoeing only.

Whether you’re new to cross country skiing, interested in testing out the latest race-level equipment, or just want to explore the trails on snowshoe, the Aspen Nordic Center offer a variety of rental equipment to help get recreators out onto the trails. They also offer equipment demo days, ski repair and service needs, and more. Their experienced staff is top-notch, and happy to help out with all your equipment needs! Discounts are also available for three- and five-day rentals.

Need some instruction to help you get going? In addition to its equipment rentals, the Aspen Nordic Center also offers a range of lessons, including both Private Lessons and Group Lessons. Lessons are offered across both skate and classic techniques.
