Contrary to what one might assume, Aspen Snowmass can be a reasonably priced vacation spot. With reduced pricing available in the spring, and summer, and by taking advantage of free activities and resort amenities and services, it is possible to have an amazing Snowmass vacation on a budget.
One of the best Snowmass summer activities to take advantage of is the free summer concert series. All summer long you can find local and touring artists to enhance your vacation. You can even hear the music from your Snowmass lodging!
Here’s our guide to everything you need to know about the Snowmass Summer Concerts.
What is the Free Summer Concert Series?
The Snowmass Free Concert Series brings world-class performers to Fanny Hill under the stars. Music enthusiasts of all genres will enjoy the summer lineup of both local and touring acts. These concerts are among the best Snowmass events you won’t want to miss!
A bonus concert on Fanny Hill on Saturday, June 10, as part of Snowmass Rendezvous, is among the free live music performances offered throughout the summer in Snowmass and the Thursday night Snowmass Free Concert Series.
Attendance Guidelines
Where Is It and How to Attend
Musical performances take place at the end of the Snowmass Mall, on the Fanny Hill Concert Stage. In addition to offering free shuttle service to the Snowmass Mall and Base Village, Town Park Station and the Brush Creek Intercept Lot offer free parking. Additional transportation options include the free Village Shuttle service throughout Snowmass and the RFTA bus service from Aspen to the Intercept Lot. The Snowmass Mall stop is the best place to exit the train.
What to Bring
It is advised to bring a blanket or low chairs for sitting down and a jacket or sweater for when it gets dark out. For any bad weather, perhaps a jacket or an umbrella. Many Snowmass eateries in Base Village and The Mall provide takeout for the ideal concert picnic. Plan to show up early? While waiting for the music to begin, you can check out the patios at Stew Pot, Venga Venga, or Ranger Station on The Mall, Base Village, Limelight, and mix6 in Base Village.
No Pets
Because of their sensitive hearing, dogs might suffer harm from loud noise. Service animals are allowed within the establishment following ADA guidelines. However, they must always stay with their owners. Animals that provide emotional support, comfort, and therapy are not permitted.
Outside alcohol is not allowed
The establishment has a staffed bar where you may buy alcoholic beverages (all canned drinks, including beer, wine, and cocktails). Only those who are 21 or older may purchase alcoholic beverages. Before receiving a wristband and buying alcohol, proper identification will be needed and checked. Alcohol is not permitted to exit the concert area.
On-site drink sales are available
While it is not permissible to bring in outside alcohol, sealed, non-alcoholic beverages are permitted. The arena has a water-filling station for those that choose to bring a reusable bottle.
Attendance is anticipated to be high this summer, and parking is scarce. Tourism officials advise carpooling, taking the RFTA or Snowmass Village Transit, or parking for free at Snowmass Town Park.

An insider’s guide on where to find the best views of Colorado’s fall colors
Fall is just around the corner, and that means one of our favorite activities of the year is coming too: Leaf peeping! The leaf peeping in Colorado is some of the best in the world, and Aspen and Snowmass are two of the premier areas to see the fall colors in all their glory. But where exactly should you go for maximum foliage? Here’s our curated list of the best leaf peeping spots in Aspen Snowmass:
Maroon Bells/Maroon Lake: Already one of the most iconic locations in Colorado, this beautiful area becomes even more stunning in the fall. With the glow from the aspen trees’ bold golden hues against the dramatic backdrop of the Maroon Bells, and the reflection of it all across Maroon Lake, you get a scene that truly feels like it’s straight from a dream – and one you simply can’t find anywhere else in the world!
Aspen and Snowmass Mountains: You don’t have to wait for the snow to fly to enjoy these epic resort mountains – they’re also some of the best places to see Colorado’s fall foliage. Whether you choose to hike up one of the many trail options or ride the gondola up, you’ll be treated to breathtaking, expansive views of yellow, orange and red at each respective resort.
Ashcroft: The ghost town of Ashcroft may be long abandoned, but it remains one of the most gorgeous places you’ll ever see, and the fall months are when it really shines. This area is prime for leaf peeping, with massive aspen groves stretched across the foreground of the Elk Mountain range, under wide open sky. Want to make a day of it? Check out Pine Creek Cookhouse for a lunch you won’t soon forget, in the most spectacular setting you can imagine.
Government and Tom Blake Trails: Want to scope out the leaves from your bike or hiking route?! Then the Government and Tom Blake trails in Snowmass Village should be at the top of your list! These trails take you right into the heart of the aspen groves so you can get up close and personal with the fall colors, and get an amazing workout to boot. You’ll feel just like you’re following the infamous yellow brick road! You can learn more about potential trail routes here.
Rim Trail: Also at the center of Snowmass – and accessible right from your door at Woodrun V! – is the renowned Snowmass Rim Trail, which takes hikers, runners and bikers high above Snowmass Village for sweeping panoramic views that are well-earned. Another amazing option for those who like to enjoy the fall colors on-the-go, this trail not only traverses right through aspen groves showing off their golden glow, but also overlooks surrounding hills ablaze with the reds and oranges of Scrub Oak. You’ll get all the colors, and all the incredible sensations of fall!
Independence Pass: Prefer to take in your scenery from the road? With a drive over Independence Pass just east of Aspen, you can experience some of the best leaf peeping imaginable, without ever having to step foot out of your car. This scenic road trip will feel like it’s right out of the movies – in high definition, of course!
So, what are you waiting for…? Fall leaf peeping in the Roaring Fork Valley is just too good to miss, and it only comes around for a few weeks each year – so don’t miss out! Check out our available fall vacation rentals in Snowmass now, and start planning your trip to experience the fall foliage in Aspen Snowmass!
What is an adventure to you, and how do you feel about activities such as zipping through the mountains at breathtaking speeds? We know a perfect summer can be different for various people; for some, it could be sitting by a lake and enjoying the cool summer breeze. For others, it could be a walk in the park and reading a book or watching movies. Or it could be taking a step out of your comfort zone which is what an adventure is truly about.
Are you a family looking for adventure? Then a Snowmass summer vacation is the perfect choice to add some excitement to your life. Snowmass summer activities are deeply rooted in exploration and self-discovery. Experience the world and nature like never before, trying out new things and surpassing your limits with the wide variety of activities Snowmass has to offer.
Here are our recommendations for how you and your family can have an adventure-packed Snowmass summer vacation.
The Lost Forest
The Lost Forest, Snowmass is the hot spot summer exploration location for adventurers of any age group. The forest allows you to loosen up and enjoy the wonders of nature as well as set your pace while embarking on an adventure.
You can explore The Lost Forest independently with the Base Ticket, or choose a guided exploration with the Treeline, or Canopy Ticket. The base ticket includes access to Elk Camp Gondola and Chair, the Breathtaker Alpine Coaster, Rugged Ascent Climbing Wall, Aerial Approach Disc Golf, Trout Hook Fishing Pond, and Elevated Journeys Hiking Trails.
Alpine Coaster
The Snowmass Alpine Coaster, appropriately dubbed “the Breathtaker”, is an elevated track running through the forest above Elk Camp. The 7-9 minute ride gives its passengers the thrill of the summer as it zips through the mountain at speeds of 28 mph/45kph. If your heart is set on gaining an adrenaline rush, this coaster is for you!
The coaster is open from 10:30 am to 4:00 pm during the regular Elk Camp Gondola hours and during the special bonus nights at the Elk Camp Restaurant. However, before the ride commences, each passenger must purchase a ticket and sign a waiver.
Treeline Challenge Course
The Treeline Challenge Course is one of the main features of the Lost Forest. This adventure is a compilation of zip lines, bridges, rappels, and ladders that create a brilliant obstacle course in the trees. With the Treeline challenge, you can learn to trust your instincts and become more confident in your abilities.
The challenge course is open to individuals that are thrill-seekers, as well as younger competitors, as the obstacle course has varying levels of difficulty. Various courses include Lily Pads (the easiest), Snakes and Ladders, Eagle Walk, Spider Web which are moderate difficulty, and the most challenging course, Islands in the Sky.
The management allows at least 2 hours for participants to experience the challenge course, including a compulsory 30-minute orientation session. Guests, therefore, must select the date and time for their orientation at the time of ticket purchase.
Rugged Ascent Climbing Wall
The Base ticket for Lost Forest gives access to the Rugged Ascent Climbing Wall, located just beyond the Elk Camp Restaurant and visible when you leave the Gondola. It is a 14-lane climbing wall with many routes of varying difficulty.
Rugged Ascent is an excellent spot for experienced climbers and beginners alike. Experienced climbers will enjoy practicing and perfecting their skills, and beginner climbers are welcome to get a feel for what the sport is like regardless of skill level. The wall has lower levels of difficulty catering to beginners.
To prepare for the climb, visitors are encouraged to look ahead at the website for safety guidelines. There are specific rules to observe for your safety as a climber, such as wearing the appropriate tight-fitting clothing, listening to the instructors, and refraining from consuming food and drinks on the wall.

… And why autumn is such a great time to visit Colorado.
With a summer as incredible as this one, it’s hard to be ready to turn the page on a new season. But the good news is that fall is also a spectacular and deeply special season in Snowmass, and an amazing time to visit the Aspen Snowmass area. There are countless reasons why this season stands out, but here are five things we love most about fall in Snowmass:
It’s absolutely gorgeous! Did someone say leaf peeping…?! If you’ve never witnessed the color show that comes with the changing of seasons in Colorado and the Rocky Mountains, you are truly missing out. As summer fades into fall, the aspen trees become a true masterpiece of transformation as their leaves turn to radiant hues of golden yellow, orange and red. There’s really nothing quite like it, and there are few places in the world that offer better leaf peeping opportunities than Aspen Snowmass. We dare you to find a more stunning backdrop than these vast golden groves shining brightly among freshly snow-capped mountains sporting their first coat of white. Don’t miss out on these unreal views that only come once each year!
The weather is ideal. We love summer just as much as the next person, but after a few months of strong sunshine, who doesn’t love a little cool-off?! Fall in Snowmass delivers that perfect happy medium between the long, toasty days of summer and the colder winter months – with days that are just the right temperature for all your outdoor adventures; crisp, refreshingly cool mornings and evenings that make that extra layer feel extra cozy; and that fleeting autumn sunshine that sits lower in the sky and warms your skin (and heart!) in its own special way. Fall weather in Snowmass is chef’s kiss!
Events that are quintessentially fall. From the iconic three-day Snowmass Balloon Festival to the renowned Snowmass Wine Festival to the Golden Leaf Half Marathon that is equal parts stunning and challenging, Aspen Snowmass plays host to numerous can’t-miss events in September and October that celebrate the special nature of the colorful fall season.
Quiet trails (and great conditions!). While summer brings plenty of crowds to the trails for bluebird skies and wildflower viewing, fall is ‘off-season’ in Aspen Snowmass, so it’s the ideal time to get out on the trails. With fewer people, you can soak up all the solitude while enjoying some final precious trail time before winter hits. What’s more, the conditions are prime for hiking, biking, running and more, with more moisture and lower temps. Get out there and take it all in while you can!
Anticipation of winter. Without a doubt, fall in Snowmass is amazing in its own right – but it also means one thing that gets us jumping up and down with excitement: Winter is coming! One of the most fun things about fall is experiencing that distinct transition into winter, and all the excitement and anticipation that comes with it. Once those leaves start changing you know that the countdown to ski season is on… and who doesn’t love a good countdown, especially when it leads to something as sweet as a Snowmass winter?!
Ready to book your trip?! Whether you want to experience all the wonder of fall in Snowmass or you’re eager to get that winter ski trip locked down, we’ve got you covered. Woodrun V makes the perfect base station for out-the-door adventures, epic scenery, and supreme comfort in both seasons. Check out our full lineup of luxury Snowmass vacation rentals today.

The scenic gondola rides are also an adventure in their own right, offering some of the most beautiful scenery you will ever see!

From there you’ll once again be just steps away from your Residence at Woodrun V, making it convenient as can be to head back home for a rest and refresh before your evening activities.
Ready for some evening fun? Depending on the day, there’s a whole range of activities to choose from. Whether it’s Music on the Mall, the free Snowmass Concert Series, Jazz on the Lawn, or a special Snowmass Live Music event, the live music options are plentiful, always offering a beautiful outdoor setting so you can take in the full spectrum of sights and sounds of Snowmass while dancing the night away. There are so many things to do in Snowmass! Of course, there is phenomenal skiing and other outdoor activities, but the area is also home to several annual events that bring in world-class talent. The Jazz Aspen Snowmass Festival, or JAS, is a three-day music series that has taken place on Labor Day weekend for the past 28 years in Fork Valley. Thousands of devoted attendees arrive in Snowmass each year for a varied musical program, making it one of the most highly-anticipated Snowmass summer activities. Legendary performers like Bob Dylan and Tom Petty have performed on the occasion.
With close proximity to our Snowmass lodging, you can be sure you’re staying in comfort during the festival. Check out our guide to everything you need to know about JAS and where you can stay for this can’t-miss Snowmass event!
What is JAS?
JAS Aspen Snowmass Labor Day Experience is a three-day music event. The event has traditionally featured various genres and styles. The artists performed in Aspen’s Rio Grande Park, well-known for hosting classical ensembles, under a 2,000-person outdoor tent.
In 1995, the group decided to divide its activities after discovering a more prominent location in Snowmass Town Park. On Labor Day weekend of that year, the JAS brass introduced a three-day event. They resumed a jazz-focused festival in June, but the new concert in September swiftly strayed from its original subject matter. Veteran folk, rock, and country musicians began to balance the yearly expenses.
The organizers designed the Labor Day series to reflect the spirit of Aspen. The musical component matched the town’s well-known status as a vacation spot for outdoor enthusiasts.
What is Jazz Aspen
Jazz Aspen Snowmass began in 1991. Stevie Nicks, Chris Stapleton, Leon Bridges, Little Big Town, Zach Bryan, Patrick Droney, and Marc Broussard all performed at last year’s festival to give you a sense of the type of music that is showcased.
The Jazz Aspen, Snowmass Labor Day Experience, is an annual tradition for the Aspen and Snowmass communities and the greater Roaring Fork Valley area. Three days of open-air celebration dancing to the best in pop, R&B, rock, funk, blues, world, and soul music make up the festival. Snowmass Town Park, with the stunning Elk Mountain Range in the background, is where the festival is held.
The JAS Music Lounge side stage, arts and crafts, kid-friendly activities, and more can all be found in the JAS Village, open to all attendees with a general admission ticket. The Lumineers, Foo Fighters, Old Dominion, Billy Idol, Grace Potter, Brothers Osborne, James Bay, and Jade Jackson will be performing, so take advantage of your chance to get up and rock out. All of these things combined make it one of the best Snowmass events all year!

Get ready for amazing adventures on the trails this summer in Aspen Snowmass
It’s official: Summer is here! And with the arrival of the summer solstice comes the start of peak hiking season in Aspen Snowmass. There’s no better way to take in the full experience of all the spectacular scenery and serenity that Snowmass has to offer than being out on the trails, and with more than 80 miles of trail to explore in Snowmass Village alone, this is truly a hiker’s paradise.
With options for every skill level, desired distance or type of terrain, every hiker can find a trail that suits their tastes and makes for the perfect day of adventuring outside in the Colorado mountains. Not sure where to start? Here’s our short list of the best hiking trails in Snowmass – all of which are easily accessible from our Woodrun V vacation rentals in the heart of Snowmass Village – plus some bonus trails in the broader Aspen and Roaring Fork Valley area, which are some of our favorites too!
Rim Trail South: This roughly 4-mile section of trail (8 miles out-and-back) offers stunning panoramic views of Snowmass Village and the surrounding Elk Mountains. With about 1,500 feet of climbing, it will get your heart pumping and legs burning, but its many switchbacks keep the climbing at a moderate grade – and offer many different perspectives to take in all the views! In July and August, wildflowers of all kinds can be found lining the trail, and aspen groves provide a beautiful backdrop and some nice shade along the way.
Ditch Trail: For something with less elevation gain (but still plenty of scenery!), check out the Ditch Trail at the top of Snowmass Village. This 3.9-mile out-and-back trail features just under 500 feet of climbing, and is a good beginner-friendly hiking option. That said, hikers of all levels can enjoy this versatile and easily accessible trail, which showcases valley, river and mountain views, with no shortage of foliage and wildflowers along the way. The Ditch Trail also offers good shade thanks to its many trees. To note, it does have a few rockier sections, so be prepared to watch your footing.
Government Trail: With multiple aspen groves, open meadows, pine forests, and plenty of mountain views, Government Trail is a true gem of Aspen Snowmass. This trail features rocky terrain and some steeper climbs, so it’s a good option for intermediate hikers. Stream crossings may also be a factor depending on water levels. The trail is 6.8 miles across, connecting from Snowmass all the way across Buttermilk at the edge of Aspen, as it traverses some of the most beautiful and peaceful terrain you can imagine. This trail features roughly 480 feet of elevation gain, with some short but steep ups-and-downs along the way. To note, portions of this trail are closed until June 28th for elk calving season.
Sky Mountain Park Traverse: This point-to-point hike is a great way to combine several of Snowmass’ most beloved trails in the Sky Mountain Park zone (Viewline, Skyline and Cozyline singletracks), and get a great aerobic challenge with 7 miles of distance and roughly 1,100 feet of climbing. Hikers can travel any direction on these trails, but if you want to start right from the heart of Snowmass, you can hit the trail from the roundabout just across from the Rodeo Lot and Town Station, head out Viewline, top out on Skyline for incredible 360-degree views all the way across the ridge, and then hike down Cozyline trail to the Intercept Lot, where you can catch a free bus back up to Snowmass Village. With its gentle grades and smooth terrain, this is a good option for intermediate hikers. Those who want a true aerobic challenge can head back across to double their distance!
Crater Lake / Maroon Bells: This iconic hike ends at the famed Maroon Bells, one of the most picturesque destinations in the world, located just outside of Aspen. At 3.5 miles long with roughly 690 feet of ascent, this must-do hike is a great option for everyone in the family, and offers a truly unforgettable experience. Hikers will enjoy aspen groves, wildflowers and lake views across the gentle uphill grade, though the stunning backdrop of the Maroon Bells peaks will ultimately steal the show. We recommend packing a lunch to spend some time enjoying Crater Lake and your well-earned prime Maroon Bells views (just be sure to pack out all of your trash!). To note, visitors should plan on taking the bus from Aspen Highlands, as parking is restricted in the Maroon Bells area.
Cathedral Lake: If you love high alpine lakes and mountain landscapes (and who doesn’t…?!), this hike must be on your bucket list! This 5.4-mile out-and-back route packs a punch with more than 2,000 feet of ascent. Starting near the historic ghost town of Ashcroft up the Castle Creek drainage above Aspen, this trail delivers plenty of altitude and steep climbs, but offers incredible beauty amid the challenge, with lots of shade as you climb through the remote forests and listen to the sounds of the flowing creek. Reward yourself with some hang time at the water or take a (very chilly!) dip in the stunning Cathedral Lake if you need a true cool-off at the top.
